Am glad i convinced you to some extent :)..LOL... about the 'skip it, must watch, stay at home etc.' suggestions- I generally avoid them in my reviews. But still, as an extension of what i said earlier, that is also a personal suggestion. There are certain critics whose taste and suggestions you tend to trust and prefer over a period of time, and generally one takes their word. |

Dheeraj, as I have repeatedly said, a review is ultimately a personal opinion, and is not something imposed on another person forcibly- he/she is free to have his own likes and dislikes. The second half of Bhoothnath did not touch me in any way, but saying that does not make me ''above human emotions''- as much as critics have to be dispassionate in our opinion (which any analysis demands, including that of cinema), that does not mean that human emotions leave us untouched. A review is not about paying attention to someone or ignoring someone. I am not trying to adjust what I say to anyone''s views, but giving my own. There are also audiences which love ''Jab Ghar Mein Ho Saali To Poore Saal Diwali''! Now I can say you are ignoring that audience by praising only ''clean entertainment''! Anyway, what is ''clean entertainment''? That itself is a subjective term. I am not stopping anyone from enjoying Vivah- go ahead, if it''s your cup of tea. I just prefer my tea with less sugar. |

Tashan is not a good film at all- it is actually more on the bad side, and my review is a rather subjective take on it. As for what you call 'filthy language, gestures'- though I didn't really appreciate them and most of the dialogue really lacked wit or class, it still went with the flow of the film mostly, unlike in UM&H. And the lines were not as cringeworthy- plus, lot of the 'Inglish' dialogue was lost on me after a point of time. |

Once again, Dheeraj, I am not against bad language, I am against bad dialogue. Foul language can be part of good dialogue- like in Omkara and many other films. |

Dheeraj, you have just proven my point. Omkara was full of foul language, but the dialogue was brilliantly written and was full of genuine wit and flair. The dialogue of U Me aur Hum is not funny and is really dumb and crass. You are right when you say that we use such language in real life, but the objective in UMH was clearly to be funny and that it wasn't. Please, don't commit blasphemy by comparing Vishal Bhardwaj with the writer of Krazzy 4, One Two Three and UMH! There is a difference between dialogue that is profane but smart (Tarantino's films are the most brilliant example of that) and that which is plain crude and unfunny, besides being offensive sometimes- it doesn't have anything to do with any bias. In any case, there was barely anything 'crude' in PKSE/JB though I am not a huge fan of either film... |

By the way, even the usually bitter old man Khalid Mohammed has given UMH a good review. So there you go. And another terrible line I remembered- Leaving a cruise midway is like looking for an abortion in the seventh month. Ugh! |

The film is definitely an honest and well intentioned attempt- and believe me when I say, I actually was dying to give it a good review- am really fed up of trashing films left right and centre. But even apart from the things that mar the film- that I mention in my review- there is another major disappointment which Rajeev Masand put very well- 'While The Notebook showed us the power of love, UMH only manages to talk about it- and a lot at that. Anyway, that is again a matter of opinion, and different opinions and perceptions are exactly what makes watching movies and the reactions evoked by them interesting. What is important is that U, Me aur Hum continue to love films passionately. Take Care. |

Hey Dheeraj, you know something- that's not really true. U Me aur Hum has got some very good reviews too, from raja Sen, Baradwaj Rangan and many more. (Check out www.allbollywood.com) As for my review, as it happens many times, I could not craft my review completely to my satisfaction, as I have a deadline to meet. Having said that, again it's all a matter of subjective opinion- we all look at things in different ways, and that's what makes this business of critiquing a film so interesting. Your point about the crudeness is very correct, we do that among friends. But then all stupid conversation can't really be put in a film, can it? Lines like 'I am a poet and I didn't even know it' are undeniably terrible. Anyway, my point is, different things stand out in a film for different people, and in that sense, there can be no objective analysis of a film. U Me aur Hum does have its points, and is not a bad film as such, as my review may inadvertently convey to you. |
